They Call Irish Mellow

Needless to say with work being so utterly hectic, and getting more hectic as we head towards christmas, time for creating art for me is literally non-existent. It’s hard enough getting the spare few hours to blog never mind do a painting. Instead, I have tried to get time to at least look at art here and there.

I came across this artist, who goes by the name Irish Mellow, because of her incredible portrait of Megan Fox in one of my favorite scenes in one of my favorite films, Jennifer’s Body.

In the film, the character of Jennifer Check was murdered by a touring band, who abducted and killed her as part of a satanic ritual. They believed she was a virgin, as Jennifer told them she was when she believed they were just going to rape her and by being a virgin she naively thought they would not rape as she’d be “rubbish at sex”. However, they had no plans to rape her - they needed a virgin for their sacrifice. However, as a result of doing the ritual without a virgin, it went terribly wrong and now Jennifer is turned into a succubus who exacts her revenge by killing and eating teenage boys.

In this scene, she is putting on her foundation, as tears fill her eyes. Her character was continually objectified and valued only because of her looks, with all the boys wanting to have sex with her and even her best friend, Needy, only really adored her because she had a crush on her. There was no real love in Jennifer’s life. This scene is so filled with sadness as she makes up her face, putting on the same mask she did when she was alive, to become the only thing that made her valuable in people’s eyes - a beautiful teenage girl.

It’s a stunning digital painting and I would love a large framed print but it’s only available in an art shop in the US, as far as I can find anyway.

Irish Mellow has lots of other beautiful creations on her Deviant Art page though, as well as another Jennifer’s Body scene (I think she loves the film as much as I do). I can only gasp in awe at her work. I think she’s working on ProCreate maybe and pushing it to its limits!
