Let the light shine through...

When I first saw the creations of Douglas Poon I wasn’t really sure what I was looking at.

Not that I even cared. I just instantly knew that I loved it whatever it was.

Was I looking at old vintage cut glass. Was that a vase or a bag?

I must confess ( I hope he would forgive me ) but I read his name as Dougal Spoon not Douglas Poon. Immediately making him sound like he comes from Inverness rather than Hong Kong.

It turns out that these were glorious bags in hand carved and highly polished resin, designed and produced to capture the look of of light travelling through antique cut glass.
Hong Kong born British Designer, Douglas Poon launched his debut collection in 2014. Since then his wonderful work can be found at the V&A Museum, Fenwick, Paul Smith, the Carnegie Museum of Art, Vakko, Beymen, Ginza and over 100 established boutiques and galleries throughout the world

Our story began when mobiles without buttons, scratchy sounds from an ancient telephone in an antique shop. A dusty crystal sitting in a corner unnoticed, under the fading sun. The last beams of light penetrating the cut glass as if projecting a movie, taking us to our forgotten past.

It’s not just bags he makes. His website features necklaces, earrings and rings all of them looking like they are made of precious antique crystal. Each one more captivating than the last.

They are also surprisingly affordable. Perfect if you want to treat yourself to something special to brighten up these dark winter days…
