Hail hail "The Harris Tweed Ride"

Glasgow's first Tweed Ride and the world's first Harris Tweed Ride takes place on Sunday 7th August 2011.

In a celebration of Harris Tweed, cycling, style, food, drink and music, our dear dear friend Mikey D and the lovely people at Harris Tweed are asking people - to get on your bikes and get their tweed on for a special 10 mile ride around Glasgow’s streets and parks.

Tweed rides were pioneered by the good folk of London in 2009 as The Tweed Run and quickly spread across the globe. New York, San Francisco, Sydney, Tokyo, Paris and Toronto have all celebrated the glory of tweed by getting on their bicycles and stepping out in style.

Now it’s time to show what Glasgow can do!

But not all tweed is created equal. Harris Tweed is renowned the world over, lauded from the hills and moors of the Highlands to the couture and catwalks of Paris and Milan. It remains one of the world’s last true artisan fabrics, handwoven as it is from 100% pure new wool by the islanders of the Outer Hebrides.

The Tweed clad riders will be leaving from the Blythswood Square Gardens and heading off to take in the landmarks and hostelries of Glasgow with a few treats and surprises lined up along the way.

From a Scots porridge & honeycomb fortifier at the start to samplings of Stornoway Black Pudding, St Mungo's Lager and West Coast Oysters en route to a finishing party with a swing at the  Kingdom's favourite hotel the glorious Blythswood Square Hotel

Even if you won't be riding, then try to get into town and join Queen Michelle and I, as we cheer the intrepid 100, along the way.

Also, if you would be so kind,  keep your eyes peeled and point us in the direction of any Harris Tweed items of clothing or accesories you come across on ebay or in vintage stores or online. Manyof the riders, are still trying to put together their perfect outfits for the big day. As always, your help and input will be much much appreciated!
