made from Scotland...
Made from Scotland was founded this summer by the lovely Fay Gourley.
She set out to showcase the very best creations that Scotland had to offer. A milllion miles away from "cheap tartan" tat , she wanted to create somewhere to share the high quality and original products that are being created by a growing number of talented designers and producers across the country.
Fay happily but painstakingly researched each and every one featured on Made from Scotland to ensure that that what they had to offer was special and wonderful.
The result is a unique online marketplace featuring work from the lowlands to the highlands all under one great big virtual roof...
From pretty to gritty, cosy to charming, from new makers like Jill Kirkham to more established ones like Gillian Kyle.
I'm not a big fan of supermarket shopping or kitchens ( unless it's making tea or toast) but everything Gillian produces, helps to make them a lot more fun!
Tunnock's Teacake Foil Bag by Gillian Kyle £19.95
I confess that I hadn't come across Jill's work before but I'm so glad I have now.
Jill explains her work saying -My prints are inspired by iconic buildings, landmarks and natural environments typical of Glasgow's industrial heritage The colours used and the layering techniques are inspired by the textures and colours of the City of Glasgow, such as decaying billboards and other urban detritus.
The basis of this cushion began from a photograph Jill took of the Gasworks near Anniesland in Glasgow. The Gasworks are an integral part of the local landscape and she was particularly inspired by the complexity of their structure. While the second one is a very graphic print depicting the sand stone facade of the town houses in Park Circus.
