For Vasily
Min from Cloud & Victory, along with Joy Womack who, until recently was a dancer at the Bolshoi Ballet, are hoping to raise money to help one of the most reknowned ballet tutors at the Bolshoi, Vasily Vorokhobko Steponovich, who recently discovered he has cancer. Joy and Min are trying to bring the ballet community together to raise money for Vasily's treatment.
Cancer is close to my heart as I lost both my parents to it, so it'd be lovely to be able to help Vasily get better.
Vasily joined the Bolshoi Ballet in 1966 following his graduation from the Moscow Choreographic School. Great but humble, Vasily is a hard-working and well-admired teacher at the Bolshoi Ballet, with almost every dancer at the Bolshoi having received the benefit of his tutelage.
He was a permanent member of revered Bolshoi choreographer Yury Grigorovich's team, and has performed in and helped create numerous Grigorovich ballets. Many of these ballets still form part of the Bolshoi's repetoire, including Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty and the Nutcracker.
To raise money for his treatment, there is going to be an auction where signed shoes by the English National Ballet's Tamara Rojo, as well as other dance memorabilia, gift certificates from Bloch & Gaynor Minden and other bargains are all up for grabs. The Australian Ballet, the cast of Australian tv show Dance Academy and Allison deBona, soloist at Ballet West and star of CW's Breaking Pointe, have all contributed pieces for this exciting auction.
The auction will take place from Dec 1st until 10th, and is open to bidders worldwide. The official website is at: www.forvasily.cloudandvictory.com. Proceeds raised will go towards helping Vasily with his medical treatment for cancer.
