look to the east...
After we stopped working in Dalmarnock many years ago, Queen Michelle and I pretty much lost contact with the East End of Glasgow.
To be honest the closest we have come recently is driving through to head up to TK Maxx at The Forge and it's been a long while since we did even that!
But all of that could be about to change again! Thanks to the fact that the lovely Lady Lisa is working with The East End Social.
If like us you hadn't heard of it, well here we go -
The East End Social is an ambitious new music project bringing a host of concerts, events and workshops to the side of Glasgow that Chemikal Underground has called home since 1997. Running from April to August 2014, The East End Social promises an eclectic music programme across a range of venues, appealing to visitors and east end residents of all ages.
A celebration of Glasgow, its east end and the love of music that unites us all, The East End Social is an official Culture 2014 event...
Despite having arguably Glasgow’s best venue, the Barrowlands, on it’s doorstep, the east end seems to be crying out for a more organised and varied music scene and the East End social appears to be the perfect hub for this. Taking in several venues around the east end including Rutherglen Town Hall, Platform (Easterhouse), the afore mentioned Barrowland ballroom and what appears to be the social’s ‘home base’, The Bowler’s Bar in Bridgeton, the East End social already has a wide and varied programme of events. Whether you’re after some Sunday afternoon jazz, a bit of Ghanaian kologo or a day chilling in front of a Reggae soundsystem, the East End social seem to have it covered.
There will also be a set of intimate gigs hosted by BBC radio’s Vic Galloway as well as current Scottish album of the year winner RM Hubbert, who will be playing, along with friends, at Rutherglen Town Hall.
This Saturday sees the exciting Duke Street Expo take place...
The Expo is set to feature live concerts from acclaimed Glasgow outfit Admiral Fallow; Hot Chip alumni Alexis Taylor; Fife’s very own King Creosote and current SAY Award Longlister and erstwhile Phantom Band vocalist, Rick Redbeard. Part of Glasgow 2014 Cultural Programme, the day will also feature various pop-up performances in various locations along Duke Street including charity shops, art galleries, florists, barbers, restaurants and local shops.
The Duke Street Expo will be anchored by two concerts in two churches adjacent to Glasgow’s famous (and longest) street: a matinee show featuring: Admiral Fallow; Rick Redbeard and Kobi Onyame takes place in The Everlasting Arms Church while: King Creosote; Alexis Taylor and Siobhan Wilson deliver an evening performance along the road in the Dennistoun New Parish Church.
Taking place along the half mile stretch of Duke Street between Bellgrove Street to the west and Millerston Street to the east, The Duke Street Expo aims to host an array of musical performances in a variety of venues from midday to 11pm.

It's pretty safe to say that we will be heading for The East End this very weekend.
If you are in Glasgow, then you should too....
