Ruffle Up Buttercup

It feels a bit frivolous talking about fashion on a sad day for many of us in the UK, especially here in Scotland when we are now forced to leave our cousins in the EU when we really didn't want to. So we're a bit teary over here on KOS.

But life must go on, whatever that life now looks like.

I was born to create Beauty.
— Yana Besfamilnaya

I think we need beauty today more than ever.

I think you all know by now how obsessed I am with ruffles. I just can't get enough and if good ruffles were easy to come by I'd have a closet full of them.

Perm in Russia is famous for it's ballet school, producing some of the best dancers in the world. But I wouldn't necessarily associate it with talented fashion designers. However, Yana Besfamilnaya hails from Perm in Russia and that girl sure knows how to make a great ruffle.

What inspired me to become a fashion designer… It was the birth of my daughter that led to the creation of my first Children clothes collection. However looking back now I realize this was not the beginning. I have always been fascinated by the world of Fashion & sensed the overwhelming desire to create. As a little schoolgirl I would spend my time during classes sketching models in fancy dresses in my notebook. This led to sewing & design classes, courses in Central Saint Martin’s UAL & NABA, my first Children’s collection, my first Women’s collection, lots of soul-searching and sketching.

Only today I bought some fabric to make some big ruffled sleeves but I'd happily fill my closet with Yana's pieces, which are actually pretty affordable given how much work, and love, has gone into each piece.

Now if you will excuse me, I'm off for another wee cry....
