Take Me Back

Reuse, reinvent and reinvigorate

I think we all realise that fashion moves much too quickly. The high street has made sure of that. However, even though I'm a fashion blogger, I don't fall into the trap of feeling the need to wear something new or different with every outfit feature. It might not make for the most scintillating of posts, but I enjoy re-wearing the same things over and over. The real talent of styling to me is finding new, inventive ways to style those pieces you wear all the time. Reuse, reinvent and reinvigorate.

My slow approach to fashion and style sees me constantly referencing old collections from labels and designers I love. Rick Owens, Haider Ackermann and Chloe are all go-to designers who's work stands the test of time. Another is Alexander McQueen.  There are countless McQueen collections which inspire and enthral me but this F/W 2011 one is up near the top. Whilst it wasn't actually McQueen himself who'd designed this collection as sadly he'd passed away by this point, Sarah Burton had carried on McQueen's vision perfectly as if he was designing through her.

For this collection, it'll be no surprise it's the addition of the leather harnesses which captivate me.

Quite literally for years I have been searching for the perfect white dress to wear with my plethora of black harnesses because of this collection. Everyday I take a few moments to search online to see if I can find 'the one'. Visually, this collection has everything. The historical costume references, which McQueen was known for, are all there plus the hardware, the lace-up detail and mix of textures and fabrics provided the perfect visual feast and inspiration fodder then and now.

I better check online again and see if that perfect white dress has appeared anywhere yet...
