Modern Gladiator

ONCE AGAIN INTO THE VOID

I last featured London based designer Erevos Aether back in 2011 for his Gaping Void collection and I revisited his work last week to see what he'd been up to.

The designer's focus back then, and still is today, is to create clothing that blurs the lines between art and fashion. Structurally experimental, Aether plays with mixing cutting edge fabrics with more traditional ones and working them into showstopping pieces. It's little wonder his creations have been used for stage costumes for the likes of Lady GaGa.

His latest collection, Gynoid-S,  features plenty of panelled leather in copper and embossed black and feels like something a futuristic gladiator might wear.

I explore the conceptual and avant-garde notions of fashion through an amalgamation of traditional techniques, craftsmanship, elegance and innovative design, revolutionizing the combination of contrasting materials. Luxurious natural fabrics mixed with technological textiles and non-textiles compliment the strong, graphic and structured designs blurring the lines between art and fashion.

CREATE YOUR OWN LOOK

Obviously this isn't wearable for most people so what can you take away from this? Well for me it's absolutely metallic leather. A metallic leather skirt, like this one from & Other Stories , with a sheer black shirt and a laceup harness, such as my Deandri laceup brace, would be a wearable interpretation of the feeling of this collection.
