Gothic Revival
GARY GRAHAM TAKES A TRIP TO 1800'S RHODE ISLAND
I know we are all supposed to be looking at the latest shows and collections, but I am still digesting last season. With autumn in full swing I don't want to be looking at spring summer anyway, I want inspiration for what to wear right now.
If I'm honest, I rarely look at designers that show in New York as they tend to be a little less exciting to me than the labels that show in London or Paris. By nature they are aimed at the slightly more pedestrian US market so usually have little interest for me. However Gary Graham, who shows in NY, gave me plenty of food for thought with his AW17 collection.
The designer was inspired by a 19th century Gothic Revival mansion he saw in Rhode Island. Borrowing from the interiors and decoration of the home, the collection is a feast of textured leather, Byzantium style beading and ornate fleur de lis esque patterns inspired by picture frames and door hinges in the house.
But it all also makes me think of things that our dearest Dust would make. This whole collection feels like Dusturbance taken to the next level. The colour palette and mixes of fabrics is something I'm certain she would approve of.
