All the fun of the Fritsch...
I have a sneaking suspicion that the jewellery Queen Michelle favours is slightly starting to affect me.
In that organic, oxidised, slightly monolithic way. But I still can’t resist colour and fun in my jewellery box.
Someone who can combine everything that we both love is the esteemed jeweller Karl Fritsch.
Working with a childlike playfulness and a rebellious irreverence, Fritsch simultaneously embraces and disregards all the historical traditions of his craft. Fritsch boldly pushes the boundaries so far past the point of ridiculousness that they reach the point of profundity, and this wit has made Fritsch a favorite with fine art and jewelry collectors alike.
Born in 1963, and now based in New Zealand, Fritsch began with traditional Goldsmith's practical training in 1982, followed by studies at the renowned jewellery dept. at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts. His work can be found in important private and public collections, so I’m guessing we won’t be able to afford any of his work anytime soon
To see more of his work, head over to the fabulously named Fingers
Much as I can admire these pieces above, it is still his brightly coloured work that makes me the happiest.
The way he piles these brightly coloured stones on top of each other makes them look like glorious little gem stalagmites.
Sensational.
