Empty Rooms...

Strange though it may seem, my favourite paintings have no people in them.

I like to look at empty rooms

From grand interiors by the Scottish Colourist Francis Cadell to deserted smalltown shops by Edward Hopper I look at them and wonder.

I wonder what it would be like to stand in those deserted spaces.

What would they sound like, feel like, smell like?

People would just distract me.

A more modern artist painting in a similar way is the wonderful Carlos San Millan

Maybe this yearning for empty rooms is a desire for a break from the noise and clutter of the modern world.

I’m very weary of it all at the moment.
