A lot on our plates...
Oh, I do love me a sweary plate or tapestry.
I think it’s the juxtaposition between something so old fashioned and the contemporary language that always gives me a tickle.
These ones are part of the "We're All Kinda Fucked Up" by Canadian artist Marie-Claude Marquis. exhibition at San Francisos’s Spoke Art's New Gallery Space Recess running from January 11, 2020 - February 01, 2020.
In addition to her trademark raunchy dinner plates, Marquis’ newest collection features framed embroideries, a Recess-exclusive coaster set, and a selection of creative home goods from the artist’s product line Merci Bonsoir. In her typographical interventions, Marie Claude Marquis springs new life into vintage found objects. With a keen eye for colour and contemporary feminism, she pokes fun at everything, from technology and consumerism to religion and sexuality, with serious reminders about environmental impacts of artistic production and consumption.
