40 years of glitter...

Oh Pierre et Gilles , how long have we loved your kitsch creations.

Decades ago, Queen Michelle and I must have used one of their images every month to create artwork for Bennets the gay club in Glasgow.

It’s a little mind-boggling that Commoy and Blanchard have been transforming musicians and film stars for 40 years now into exquisite saints, martyrs and mythical creatures.

Since meeting in 1976 at a party hosted by Japanese fashion designer Kenzo Takada, they have been sprinkling their glitter magic to make us smile.

If you are in Paris before the end of February you should try to catch Pierre et Gilles - Factory of Idols

Designed as a musical and visual installation, and curated by Milan Garcin, this exposition at Paris’ Musee de la Musique explores the universe of Pierre & Gilles through an assembly of more than a hundred of their photo-paintings of celebrities and icons, complete with a an online playlist, a host of objects and video documents.

Have you ever in your life saw iggy pop look so wholesome?

It’s hard to believe they are both now in their late 60’s

"Maybe it's because it took time for the art world to embrace us, but we still feel slightly marginal," said Commoy. "But we do what makes us happy, without compromise. That's what matters."
