the first cut is the deepest
Today’s post is short but significant.
I didn’t even really know what category to place it in.
This is a post about knives. I don’t think we’ve ever posted about knifes before.
It’s also a comment on the life altering power of great design. How sometimes it’s the simplest ideas that can have the greatest impact and have other designers thinking “ why didn’t I think of that”
I was both intrigued and happy to read that British cutlery company Viners has released a collection of kitchen knives with rounded tips in a bid to reduce knife-related incidents.
If you live in Scotland or anywhere in the United Kingdom you will be familiar with the statistics on knife crime. They would make you hair stand on end.
Designed with safety and functionality in mind, the six-piece Assure knife collection boasts a blade design with a blunt, rounded tip that won't pierce human skin.
The design is Viners response to recent legislation by the UK government that reclassifies kitchen knives as offensive weapons, leading some retailers to remove knives from shelves in store.
The law was made after reports showed that knife-related crime incidents are at a record high, with a reported 285 fatalities in the past 12 months in the UK.
The squared tip has been designed to maximize safe use in and around the home, assuring the performance will not be compromised. They will be available on the Viners website from February
Bravo Viners Bravo.
An inspiring example of great design making life better.
