The Tigress of Forli

Nuit Clothing Atelier is one of those brands you see predominantly on your Instagram adverts. I’ll be honest, I rarely clock those ads, or any Instagram ads for that matter, as the brands seem more often than not to be cheap and nasty Chinese brand, so I bypass ads nearly always. Nuit clothing is different though. Everything is handmade in our downtown Toronto Atelier in limited quantities. With an emphasis on minimal production waste, natural and sustainable materials, as well as, conscious design practices, it rejects modern fast-fashion business models and embraces the traditional, sustainable and ethical process of an atelier.

Founded in 2012, by Anastasia Ikonnikova, it began as a “project which aimed to bring the other-worldly into the everyday.” Initially born into the world of music and performance, the brand “weaves a dreamscape of mysticism, nature and art into each collection, distilling these inspirations into talismanic, physical form”.

Her FW2020 collection, The Tigress of Forli, is filled with historical-esque pieces including an beautiful chainmail belt.

Anastasia creates conceptual garments which are both, wearable and flattering, featuring dramatic silhouettes which empower the body. Fabrics and materials with innate beauty are a starting point for design, with subtle, intricate details adorning the final garment. The colour palette is harmonious and minimal, allowing the natural elegance of the wearer to be the center of focus. Black is often the language of NUIT, for black is infinite, like the night-sky.
