Baroque Star
The world is consumed by Covid-19, literally and metaphorically. It’s becoming harder and harder to determine what the actual truth is regarding how serious it really is.
We continually hear that it’s killing x amount of people daily, but on the other hand the flu also kills x amount of people daily, we just don’t hear about it. So the reality is the health authorities simply don’t yet know what we’re really dealing with. I already work from home and barely see another human day to day so not much will change for me if we in the UK are told to stay at home.
But regardless, I’m sick (pun intended) of hearing about Covid-19. I want to think of and see nice things. I want to feel happy and worry free and, as impossible a task as that seems, I’m starting by harking back to yet another old collection - Balenciaga SS06 to make my eyeballs happy at least.
I really miss the Nicolas Ghesquière era Balenciaga. His SS06 collection, with its jacquard patterns, ruffled necklines and bold monochrome stripes, his “baroque rock star” moment was one that has stuck with me.
I plan to wear neck ruffles and baroque-ness even if we are fully quarantined. Just because you’re isolated doesn’t mean to say you can’t look chic doing so.
