Gingham For Life

Oh Gingham, how I love thee

Gingham, at its heart, is twee, naive, childlike. Those tiny squares take me back to being a little girl when my mum would tie my hair in bunches using gingham ribbon. I have the most amazing memories of starting primary school and going to the local haberdashers to pick new ankle socks and hair ribbons. The shop had one of those old amazing glass counters with all the tiny little open drawers, all containing rolls of ribbons and socks and lots of little things that fit. I would stare into that glass counter, tiny nose and hands pressed against the glass, making sure I chose my socks and ribbons well. Maybe, probably, that’s where my love affair with gingham began.

Nowadays, I have made gingham fit for the person I am now. Less cutesy and naive and a little edgier, a little more subverted.
