the wind and the waves...
Hello again.
That’s me back home from the East Nuek of Fife, where I have spent the last week just looking at the water and listening to the wind…
People often wonder what draws our Frances and I back to this corner of the word, year after year ( including her husband Gary). It’s not just the memory of our family holidays as children, it’s the bright clear blue of the sky and the lure of the waves. We wander from fishing village to fishing village and then just stand or sit and look out at the water.
Simply staring out to sea can change our brain waves frequency, luring us into a mild meditative state. The colour blue is associated with feelings of calm and peace and listening to the ebb and flow of waves and the swell of the sea naturally soothes and relaxes the brain. The fresh salty sea air is full of negative ions, believed to help alleviate depression and the increased levels of Vitamin D – the sunshine vitamin which soaks into our skin makes us feel good.
Blue health is becoming a popular topic all over the world, gaining momentum as studies uncover exactly how blue spaces – such as the sea can improve physical health and mental wellbeing.
Many believe the sea has a therapeutic quality and scientists are now proving this to be true. Being by the water rejuvenates the body and mind, reducing stress, and anxiety.
The sea works for us in a way that is beyond language…
As well as looking at the sea, there was a lot of time spent drinking tea, eating fish and chips and looking at old churches.
We are already looking forward to our next wee trip.
Queen Marie
