Delight in the debris...

You may remember I wrote a post a few months ago about how much I love terrazzo.

Here is a delightful new modern take on it to brighten up your Tuesday.

A material that looks like terrazzo but is created from concrete and plastic marine debris.

Say hello to the Debris Furniture Series by Hakmin Lee of Studio HAK

Designed in collaboration with Amore Pacific and Oaah Agency and manufactured by Dcrete, the collection is inspired by GPGP, the Great Pacific Garbage Patch which is a collection of marine debris in the Pacific Ocean.

In an effort to raise awareness about recycling plastic waste, Hakmin turned empty cosmetic bottles, which were returned by customers through Amore Pacific’s green cycle campaigns, into flakes and mixed it with UHPC concrete. The end result is a material with a terrazzo-like pattern, which Hakmin then used to create the Debris furniture series consisting of a bench, side table and stool.

My garden furniture is tired and tragic, I would love something like this to brighten it up.

Also it goes without saying, that anything that helps take plastic out of our oceans can only be a good thing.
