The Sea And Memories
Vika Mayzel is a young Israeli jewelry designer, now based in Prague, who established her brand after graduation from the jewelry design department of Shenkar College of Engineering and Design in 2015(Tel Aviv). She has shown her work at international events such as London Design Festival, Autor - International contemporary jewelry fair in Bucharest and Prague Design Week.
Vika studied fine art for over 10 years and her jewelry owes much of its aesthetic to her previous studies. This dialogue of jewelry and world of art runs continuously through her work.
Tamarix Collection
The main motifs of Vika’s latest collection are sea and memories. Memories for her native Crimea and both Tel Aviv, for the Black and Mediterranean Sea. For childhood and adolescence, for waves, sand, freedom, and home, which the sea has been always part of. The name Tamarix comes from an indomitable, sun-loving shrub that grows both on Crimean and Israeli shores. It was also mentioned in the Hebrew holy book of Tanach. The collection includes necklaces, pendants, earrings and rings that together create harmony, but at the same time, each element can be a self-sufficient bit. All jewelry is made of silver in various techniques: earrings and a ring, for example, are a combination of 3D printing and hand-crafting, while others have been wax cast, followed by silver casting, others were created by silver oxidation. Various details of Israeli port Jaffo served for Vika as visual inspiration. It was not only a frequent destination for her walks but also frequently the inspiration in her art. Some details such as eyelets or marine ropes of anchored ships are also reflected in the collection.
The earrings for me are the standout in this collection. They are so utterly beautiful and any ears would be far better with these in them.
