sound and light...
It’s true what they say - the more things change the more they stay the same.
As I lay on top of my bed the other night, staring up at the lights on my ceiling while listening to Brian Eno through my headphones, I figured the 17 year old me would nod in recognition at the scene.
As far as albums go, nothing helps take the edge off a rough day like this ambient classic.
As I lay there in my own wee world of sound and light it dawned on me that I had forgotten to share with you the glorious Brian Eno turntable.
Last year, Brian Eno designed a new turntable, in partnership with London gallery Paul Stolper.
Made from acrylic, the turntable is fitted with LED lights that move through different hues and colour combinations. Only 50 of the limited edition turntables were made and as you can imagine they sold out fast.
“The light from it was tangible as if caught in a cloud of vapour,” says Eno of the development process, “we sat watching for ages, transfixed by this totally new experience of light as a physical presence.”
Eno has spent decades combining music and art. Producing visual art since the late 1970s, he’s had several exhibitions with the Paul Stolper Gallery, including his “Light Music” installation in 2016 that also combined light boxes and music.
