Its in the bag...

Margiela has always been a kind of marmite brand.

You either love it or you hate it.

However when it’s watered down slightly in collaborations it seems to become more palatable and indeed wearable for many.

Case in point it’s collaborations with Eastpak.

Everyone can wear backpack. Hahaha.

Eastpak have just launched their second collaboration with the iconic house, MM6 Maison Margiela. The second eclectic collection features surrealistic shapes and larger-than-life silhouettes, with co-branded MM6 and Eastpak details. This time around it is a four-style collection of backpacks, tote bags, and shoulder bags which is both surreal and playful at the same time.

The Padded Pak'r, sees the right half of the backpack elongated, giving the illusion that the bag is melting. A warped version of Eastpak's logo label adds to the effect.

Or how about when two bags become one to create something new - MM6's signature Japanese tote, both silhouettes are merged into one. The result? A triangular, canvas carryall outfitted with a zippered pocket at the front.

The collection is an extension of MM6's SS22 runway show, an homage to surrealist artists Claude Cahun and Leonora Carrington that saw chess boards fashioned as tops and suiting made of butcher paper.

My favourite ( although perhaps the least practical for carrying anything other than papers and your laptop ie none of the usual crap that most people carry) is the slimline Poster bag. For some reason it is giving me serious early NASA surreal vibes and that can only be a good thing. It can be carried as a backpack or with the handles. You can use the built-in laptop sleeve to protect your tech and stash your files or artwork in the internal organiser.

Needless to say I need another bag like I need a hole in the head…
