Drenched in Dries....

It’s pretty safe to say that perfume is essential in life. I even spray some on before I go upstairs to bed at night. Thankfully my sense of smell and taste are coming back slowly, so it should be business as usual soon. Thank goodness.

Just in time to drench myself in some Dries Van Noten.

With the recent launch of  Dries Van Noten Beauty, where “fragrance and makeup are reimagined” Dries is looking to add “a further layer to his sought-after style through the lens of beauty”

This has been a long time coming and the range contains a line of refillable lipsticks and perfumes, alongside soaps, hand creams and accessories like mirrors, combs and makeup bags.

He describes the creation of the beauty range as “playing creative ping-pong,” referencing his collaborations with various makeup artists and perfumers. The first collection features 10 refillable eaux de parfums, including scents such as “Neon Garden,” a nod to his luxurious garden , as well as “Voodoo Chile,” which was inspired by a Jimi Hendrix record. There are also 30 lipsticks available in satin, matte and sheer finishes.

The glass bottles and lipstick cases are glorious with some of them even featuring Delft pottery

Neon Garden with Mint and Iris sounds like it would be right up my street.

There is a lovely independent review of them all here.

Even before smelling them, my main gripe is the price.

When did ‘niche’ perfumes become so expensive. Yes I understand about quality ingredients, bottles, marketing and packaging but it feels almost like there is an element of just seeing what the market will bear. I blame Tom Ford for a lot of it, he seemed to persuade people into thinking that spending £150 a bottle was average. Harrumph.

So given the fact that 100ml will set you back £215, you would probably be wise to order up the Discovery Set at £42 first and see which one of them you really love and then speak nicely to Santa.

Yes I said the ’S’ word and it’s only June…
