Sail away....

In these stormy days, we can all benefit a little from the true escapism that fashion can sometimes bring. A collection or show can really transport you away to another place. A happier and brighter place.

That’s exactly what the menswear Louis Vuitton Spring Summer 2023 show is doing for me right. now.

As the models walked a giant winding yellow toy racetrack, created by LA based studio Play Lab Inc, I found my smile getting wider and wider.

The show was set in the Carré du Louvre, one of the main courtyards at the former Parisian palace and featured a collection designed wholly by Vuitton's studio team following Virgil Abloh's passing and his last collection for the house earlier in 2022.

The collection was all about play.

Suits embellished with leather paper planes, bags shaped like toy cars and origami-style paper hats carried the concept of childhood play into the ready-to-wear collection.

"A manifestation of our childhood dreams – fairy tales, majesty, whimsy – these moulures ornament moulded leather tailoring and bags, and feature in delicate lace garments."

The creativity and craft of the ‘Strange Math’ collection was especially evident in the glorious accessories. The bags were a total dream. The house's famous Keepall was highlighted with neon green, a playful pattern, or the colorful monogram crochet. There was even a bag in the form of a small truck for children, and a model that took the shape of a multi colour house.
