'I have to be seen to be believed'

When talking about her bright clothes and large hats, The Queen always remarked that “I have to be seen to be believed’

As I type this Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth lies in state at St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh as thousands of people queued up overnight to file slowly past her to pay their respects and take one final look.

Whether standing in line on the Royal Mile or watching on television, we watch in silence as the ancient machinery of the monarchy turns and we say goodbye to the only Monarch most of us have ever known.

Regardless of how you feel about the monarchy, this has everyone remembering their own loved ones. Mothers and Grandmothers especially as we mourn the passing of time in our own lives.

A prominent loss can also stir up not just memories but old pain. For some of us it may even trigger some grief that we haven’t fully processed yet. So let’s all be kind to each other and ourselves in these coming days.
