time on your hands...

Hands up if you use your phone to check the time.

Hands up if you own a lovely watch that lies in a drawer because you just can't arsed wearing one anymore or you don't like the feeling of one on your wrist.

Well it seems like designer Gusztav Szikszai shares these feelings. He's the man behind the the Ring Clock above. It's a watch in the form of a ring.

The idea for it started with a challenge 2 years ago at CGSociety.org named Moving Innovation. The idea was to create a product that cannot exist today, but could exist 10 years  in the future. Gusztav wanted to create something innovative, good to look at and actually useful. Although I wish he had taken a little longer naming it, 'ring clock' hold no appeal for me whatsoever.

"I never wore a watch on my wrist because I don't like the feeling, but I like watches in general, so I used that opportunity to let my mind come up with something that I could wear, the Ring Clock.”

Made in stainless steel, with a choice of blue or amber led lights, it is simplicity itself to use. The hours, minutes and seconds are on the same outer ring. The inner ring is the one that is in contact with your finger. The outer ring rotation activates the LED's and you can see the time around the ring. You recharge it wirelessly. They cost $349 from here

Much as I love the idea of this and the look of it, the stainless steel band still looks a little too chunky for me and I honestly think I would be totally distracted by that little blinking blue light reminding me that my life was passing in front of my eyes second by second...
