fly girls...

Despite being contrary creatures, there are obvious ways to capture the attention of Queen Michelle and I...

As she wonderfully demonstrated yesterday,  reference 'leather and lace'  and she is sure to look at what you are doing, whereas for me it's folkloric and deconstructed. Another sure way is to reference someone we admire. Joan of Arc, Lemmy, Frida Kahlo, Amelia Earhart you say - pass us the lookbook!

But I must confess I was slightly surprised that it was Judy Wu, who when searching for the muse for her‘AVI-A-TRIX’ AUTUMN/WINTER 2016, was inspired by female aviation pioneers like Amy Johnson and Amelia Earhart, who followed their passion in pursuing their dreams in a field women were rarely seen. They were strong, driven, beautiful and considered unapologetic in the world of aviation. There is also something timeless about them, just look at this shot of Amelia below. Hell it looks like Bruce Weber has shot her for a Ralph Lauren campaign. Wonderful...

Judy captures the essence of these women in her AW16 collection with fluid parachute dresses, cotton webbing harnesses and tailored aircraft panelling.

As a contrast to the utilitarian details of aviation, Judy has included subtle eroticism and dominatrix elements with materials like patent, rubber and leather. The palette this season includes black, grey, navy, white, khaki green and flashes of burnt orange.

Although it goes without saying that this coat below has Queen Michelle's name all over it...
