Bigger is always better...
Once again Queen Michelle is ahead of the curve. Or should that be ahead of the sleeve. After her post last week, featuring sleeves so big they have their own postcode, it seems that everywhere I look, collections are featuring a very generous sleeve.
Say hello to Ellery. Resort 17.
Don't think we have featured this label before but I could be wrong. After writing for 10 years, it's easy to lose track. 10 years. Holy crap. But back to the sleeves...
Kym Ellery is far from conventional, as her trademark billowing flares will testify. But for this collection she has moved up the body, this time around it's all about shoulder action!
These are sleeves that are making a serious statement —ruffled, ruched, leg-of-mutton, you name it, it's happening
Her inspiration for the collection was reportedly Alejandro Jodorowsky’s movie Holy Mountain, a ’70s surrealist fantasy. But having never seen the movie I can't really comment.
Directed by filmic legend Alejandro Jodorowsky and produced by Beatles manager Allen Klein in 1973, ‘The Holy Mountain’ is a visionary work of art house cinema. The various female symbolist characters in the film range from; the alchemist’s silent assistant, a weapons manufacturer from the planet Mars, both the wife and lover to a millionaire art dealer, war toy maker of planet Saturn and a group of prostitutes, one with a pet ape.
Legend goes, that before the principal photography commenced, Jodorowsky and his wife spent a week without sleep under the direction of a Japanese Zen master.
Having successfully launched denim a couple of seasons ago, the Australian brand is expanding its accessories offering, too, with a full shoe collection launching for Resort. Needless to say I am smitten with the perspex heel!
TheResort ’17 collection brings with it playful shocks of colour. From flamingo pink and lipstick red all the way to khaki, midnight and liquid silver, the palette is spicy. A blazing woodcut floral print also features in red and white as well as sunny yellow.
I love love love this dress below...
The denim takes thing seriously wide, matching giant sleeves and gigantic flares.
These are real big...
It's all rather fun and fabulous , I just wish I could shake the slight Solange Knowles vibe I'm getting from some of it...
