For Art's Sake

I spoke recently about taking up art after a 30 year hiatus. I have been really enjoying the process of discovering what I enjoy painting and in what style. At times is a frustrating process, as I try styles that don’t turn out to be natural to me, or try effects that totally bomb. There’s been a few tantrums along the way!

I figured I’d share some of the things I’ve painted so far.

It’s clear that I favour lots of texture and murky neutral hues, except one in which I have explored exciting and vibrant shades of indigo, cyan and purple with flecks of gold.

It also seems that I’m still influenced by the same graphic design heroes I had when I was a design student; Vaughan Oliver and David Carson. Their use of stamp-like texture on top of overworked images is clearly still seered into my mind.

It’s funny how sharing art feels like baring your soul but it really does! However, it’s an exploratory process and there will be mistakes along the way but it’s one which I’m having lots of fun with.
