Terazzo Time...
Sometimes it’s hard to tell where an obsession has come from.
Case in point, me and terrazzo.
I think started in lockdown. All of a sudden I was looking at terrazzo tiles and floors. Then I moved onto walls and candle holders. If it was terrazzo I was taking a wee look at it.
Some of the happiest little pieces come from a Belgian brand Les Pieds de Biche
They have taken a modern approach to terrazzo with decorative objects that feature geometric patterns and bold colourways that were inspired by the palettes of artists like Picasso, Van Gogh, Munch, and Mondrian. Founder Diam Coly uses traditional techniques to enrich the new, raw materials for a polished yet authentic aesthetic that highlights the uniqueness of each piece. The brand’s offerings include planters, bowls, candles, vases, soap dishes, and more, all ethically handmade by Diam in their Brussels studio.
The pieces are bright and playful. exactly what we need in these dark days of winter
If you have the time, read the great article from Vogue that looks at how terrazzo moved “from under our feet to everywhere” in the last few years.
Hope you are all safe, well and sane.
We are just about to go into a pretty severe Tier 4 lockdown. We’ll see you the other side.
