Hanging Vortex

Remember I shared with you my Vortex triptych? Three entirely black paintings but involving lots of texture.

I loved creating these pieces and the challenges they presented. There is actually a Vortex IV which I created as part of a collaboration with a musician - he is going to create a piece of music inspired by my painting. I’m excited to see what happens with it.

In the meantime, I finally got round to hanging up my own Vortex paintings. It’s not often I look back at my paintings and still like them as much as I did when I first painted them, but I do still like these.

My next plan is to create another textural piece but mostly white this time but perhaps incorporating the Black 3.0 paint I recently bought. I tried this paint out on one of my black pieces but it’s so flat it wasn’t very useable as anything textural requires some degree of light reflection to see the texture. But I will explore further.
