Covid Blindness

I’m working hard to remain inspired during this horrid time that feels as if it’s NEVER GOING TO END. I’ve updated my graphic design website, I’ve been trying to keep up with sharing outfits on Instagram, I’ve painted and tried, in vein, to find some work. It’s hard but we must carry on as best we can and not fall into a pit of anxiety and unhappiness. There is a tendency to want to climb into bed and just hide, until the need for cake becomes unbearable of course. Personally, I’m not the kind of person who takes to my bed for a crisis of any kind. I prefer to try emotionally front it out as best I can.

However, maybe quilted clothing is a good compromise. I’m extremely partial to quilting anyway, but when it goes over-the-top wit added florals, then I’m all in. In a similar style to the Preen collection Queen Marie posted recently, I wanted to share the AW18 collection by Korean label Blindness, who have taken it to a whole other level.

Guernica

Massacre en Corée

Designed by JiSun Park and KyuYong Shin, the collection was inspired by Picasso’s Guernica and Massacre en Corée, his two monochrome paintings. Massacre en Corée depicts the 1950 mass killing of North Koreans by U.S. troops, however Park and Shin had Massacre repainted by children in a range of bright, hopeful colours. The anti war message behind both Picassos artworks, and Blindness’ interpretation of them, somehow feels very relevant in the current climate as we wage global war against an unseen enemy but do so with positivity and hope. The army bomber jacket was reimagined and there was a pleasing use of army green throughout the collection and well as tiers of nylon ruffles and puffed coats which feature silk floral linings.

Hello, come to mama!!!
