Don't make us go back there...

As someone who lived through the 80’s and the very early 90’s it always makes me laugh when young people want to revisit it.

From my young nieces to designers who should know better.

My objections are quite simple - fashion was so ugly then. Don’t make us go back there!

This is the exact opposite of what Olivier Rousteing and his team feel when they designed Balmain’s 2021 Resort Collection during the coronavirus pandemic, swapping images on WhatsApp and drafting in suppliers worldwide to get it made.

“We need to bring some joy, because right now the fashion world is kind of sad. Everybody is worried about the future, but instead of being worried, instead of words, put some action,” “Beverly Hills, 90210,” “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and Julia Roberts in “Pretty Woman.” “It’s a colorful and happy collection,” Rousteing said. Think blazers with linebacker shoulders paired with cycling shorts or faded jeans, and topped with a black beret plucked straight off Alicia Silverstone’s Cher in “Clueless.”

Everything was about extremes. HUGE shoulder pads, really short skirts

I appreciate the energy that everything had but that doesn’t make it any better to look at.

Having said all that Oliver may have redeemed himself in Queen Michelle’s eyes with GIGANTIC sleeves, gingham and some serious puffball action. She can’t resist that stuff…
