since 1824...

I’ve always admired the RNLI.

The Grande Empresse Gillian and I used to raise money for them when we were teenagers.

Established in 1824, The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. They provide on call 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service around the UK and Ireland, and a seasonal lifeguard service. With their lifeboats, lifeguards, safety advice and flood rescue, they are committed to saving lives. The RNLI relies on volunteers and voluntary donations to operate their lifesaving service.

I was intrigued to read about their ‘Since 1824’ collection.

When RNLI lifejackets reach their end of service, we’re recycling them, by redesigning them into these special products. RNLI life jackets are only decommissioned every 10 years or so, therefore these items are in limited supply. Hard-wearing and water-resistant, each product varies in colour, detail and finish, depending on the unique history of the life jacket it was made from. All items are skillfully crafted by hand in the UK. Our latest collection uses yellow fabric from the inflatable inner section of the life jacket and takes its name, Since 1824, from the year the lifeboat service was founded, by Sir William Hillary. Since our foundation in 1824, our brave lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved over 140,000 lives. Every product we create from recycled life jackets represents an authentic piece of the RNLI’s lifesaving history, and every purchase helps save lives at sea.

Gillian has ordered the Red Bucket bag and I’m thinking I need to get a hold of the tote bag.

Any little thing we can do to support such a worthwhile cause seems like a good idea.
