The Light of Love...

It’s funny the things you can get slightly obsessed with during lockdown.

Case in point, me and bioluminescence!

I was on shutterstock recently searching for a shot of jellyfish for a job which led me to find the stunning Comb jellyfish above and the Angel jelly fish which are both highly luminous.

But that was nothing compared to the bioluminescence of fireflies…

Which then led me to the stunning work of photographer Daniel Kordan

In 2019 he visited Japan’s Kyushu Island, to capture the spectacle of the fireflies during their mating season.

The beetles search for partners from about May to July, with the males first producing the flashes of light and the females generating responses. Generally swarmed together, the exchanges have a twinkling effect that emits a continuous soft glow across the area.

“Fireflies are very sensitive. They need clean water nearby, warm humid air (but not rain), and no lights. Not a single photo can show how beautiful it is—shimmering and blinking forest full of little stars.”

If you want to. know how he captured such stunning shots, he shares his secrets on his Instagram

He sells prints of his work in his shop.

I hope your lights of love are shining brightly this dark and rainy Tuesday.

Big Love

Queen Marie
