Save the last dance...

It’s been quite a weeks for goodbyes.

Alessandro got his P45 at Gucci, Dries Van Noten closed his label and now the venue of his last show - Printworks London is set to close next year.

The groundbreaking multi purpose cultural space is a nightclub and events venue in Rotherhithe, South London, is located in the former Harmsworth Quays printing plant, which printed newspapers including the Daily Mail and Evening Standard until 2012.

It has just announced it’s final season before it closes to to be repurposed into office spaces and shops by using the iconic lengthy structure of the venue, and retaining the press halls, with an additional extension on the roof and southern end of the building itself.

I find that deeply deeply depressing.

Honey Dijon, Plastic People and Tresor will host showcases at the venue before it closes for good in spring. It has just unveiled more than 40 shows for its last-ever season. The final season will start on February 4th, 2023, with the Body Movements Festival, while details of the closing weekend, starting on April 28th, are still TBA.

Over the past six years, Printworks has hosted the world’s best electronic music talent. For the Final Season we’ve created a programme that brings together guests and partners who have been with us throughout Printworks’ journey, along with some new parties and breakout brands. Our biggest season to date will be a celebration of the history of Printworks and a farewell to the venue for the last time in its current guise.

Nightlife culture is struggling enough in this after covid world, without having wonderful venues turned into yet more offices and shops. It’s the opposite of hopeful…

*sigh*
