wrap me up in a rainbow...

I can’t remember a time when I didn’t LOVE scarves. My house is full of them and summer and winter I pile them on every single day. It goes without saying that if I never bought another scarf as longs I lived I would still have to many. Of course that doesn’t stop me looking at them and buying them.

I had never heard of Mourne Textiles until I came across them a few weeks ago. Based in County Down in Northern Ireland, they are a woven clothing and accessories company founded by Norwegian weaver Gerd Bergersen in the 1940s. Today it’s still a family-run business, with Gerd's descendants continuing her legacy. Her grandson Mario grew up among the looms and now leads the company. Having expanded beyond rugs and upholstery, Mourne Textiles now also produces clothing and accessories, still using many of Gerd's original fabric designs.

Their website is one of the most charming sites I have come across in many a long day. I was instantly smitten with both their history and every single item in their collections. From blankets to scarves it is all so glorious.

Their collection of super soft scarves and neck warmers are woven on Hattersley Shuttle Looms in their studio at the foothills of the Mourne Mountains. These beautiful, vintage looms were first manufactured in 1919 and have been tried and tested over the decades. They are proud to still work with these magnificent looms and delight in the wonderful textures and rich weaves that the Hattersley produce.

My absolute favourite is this narrow Tweed Emphasise scarf in this beautiful moss green. I have resisted buying it so far but I suspect I may cave in at the end of the month 🤣

Make yourself a cup of tea and have a wee prowl, you too are sure to be charmed…
