If you go down to the woods today...

You would be in for a VERY BIG SURPRISE if you came across the glorious wool and fabric sculptures by Belarusian artist Mila Zemlia

Filled with a sense of ennui, her wonderful creations are expressive and oversized. Mina photographs them outside in the woodland in states of contemplation and solitude. She explains that they represent “the connection of Belarusians with their nature, as well as with their traditions, which are now in a dangerous position and under repression.”

She uses vintage textiles from both her personal and her family’s collection of bedspreads and home decor to connect various traditions of her Belarusian heritage. She carefully matches her chosen creature with each unique pattern, colour and type of fabric in their loving creation.

It’s making me look at all the blankets and bedspreads in my home just wondering what creatures could be lurking there if only Mina could work her magic on them…
