Le Puppet Regime...
Stained glass. I love it. I even took a course many years ago to learn how to do it but it will come as no surprise that I just did NOT have the patience or the steady hand required. So I’m always impressed at the glorious creations that talented makers can produce.
Like the ‘curious glass’ made by Genevieve Geer of Le Puppet Regime
Genevieve was born and bred in Massachusetts. In 2013 she started Le Puppet Regime, a small glass company specializing in articulated, illustrated glass. In 2018, she opened a brick and mortar location to expand her designs into lighting and furniture. In 2023 she and her husband, the artist Sam Geer, purchased a 100 year old Train Station in upstate New York to become the new home for Le Puppet Regime.
As well as larger pieces she creates ‘ Petite Art’ like the Prince of Pumpkins below. These are tiny affordable works for wall and window. It goes without saying that I was also thinking about popping one onto leather cord and wearing it round my neck…
Most of the work I produce is a combination of traditional Stained Glass technique mixed with a Low Brow, Pop Surrealist sensibility. I work in two ways with flat glass: either engraving flash glass and layering it for panels, or painting with powdered glass and then engineering a piece to have the moving parts. The goal is always to find new ways of utilizing the material, and experiments abound. The themes I lean toward are fantastical and historical, themes that are as magical as the medium.
Just look at all the glorious detail in every single corner of the works…
Now I’m going to go and have a cup of tea and wonder once again why I don’t have more patience, hahaha.
