Get a grip...
With winter approaching, there is no woman in the land, who has not started looking at winter boots. The older you get, you become especially interested in what kind of grip they have. No one wants to risk a fall on their arse. Mine is well padded but even that does not remove the fear and trepidation of stepping outside on icy mornings.
I always find myself looking at styles that remind me of mountain and hiking boots (yes I am well aware of the irony in that, given how slothful I am)
A company that is looking at these things in a very different way is Demon Footwear.
As a company, they are the result of the reboot of Deon, an iconic Italian industrial company from Monetbelluna founded in 1963 by Girolamo Deon, who specialised in producing mountain boots.
Girolamo’s nephew, Alberto Deon, is an architect who graduated in London in 2020, bringing new life to the brand that same year. He renamed it Demon, and created a brave new vision by reconnecting the brand’s origins and ties with the local footwear district and know-how with the language of contemporary design.
He has focused on creating new disruptive mixes of technical solutions and avant-garde taste. To be honest I’m not really sure how I feel about them yet. Just look at the Poyana below which was conceived of as a hiking boot.
The new Demon collection reflects Albertos eclectic and multifaceted background as, while retaining Vibram soles, it shows typical mountaineering silhouettes reinvented through redesigned uppers, soles and lacing by introducing materials such as PVC coated knitwear uppers, satin metal toecaps, Kalgan furs, technical lacing systems, crackled leather surfaces and other unique material mixes. Retail prices range from €410 to €580.
They are available on the Demon and Slam Jam site
I was more taken with these Zhocol Boots. Just look at that buckle.
Of course it is the soles that you are really interested in. Just take a look at this guy! Even I would feel safe as houses on the iciest day with these…
