Strap yourself in...
Sometimes you see something, that is so up someones street, that if money was no object, you would buy it for them straight away.
Case in point this Junya Watanabe leather harness dress for Queen Michelle.
As soon as I saw it over at Ssense I could picture her in it.
Black Faux-Leather Harness Long Dress
Long sleeve quilted panelled grained leather long dress in black. Harness-style construction. Webbing straps, hardware, and adjustable integrated leather straps with pin-buckle fastening throughout. Crewneck collar. Zippered vents at sleeves. Tonal satin lining. Silver-tone hardware.
It was 4295 euros and is now only 1460 ears in the sale. Guess there are not many people like QM that could carry this off.
Much as I love Japanese designers, Junya Watanabe is one of the few I’ve never worn.
A Japanese fashion designer who originally studied under Comme des Garcons designer, Rei Kawakubo. A graduate of Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo in 1984, he began his career as a patternmaker at CDG and was soon promoted to chief designer of the Tricot line, followed by CDG Homme. He started his own line under the label, called Junya Watanabe Comme des Garcons, in 1993 and began showing in Paris. As is his mentor, Watanabe is renowned for his innovative and distinctly avant-garde, technically brilliant style in his experiments with cutting-edge fabrics, original tailoring and complex draping.
But a strange thing happened. As I pictured her in the harness dress it quickly started to fade, to be replaced with a picture of her in her snowboarding gear. It just goes to show you how profound a genuine change in your interests can have on everything and everyone around you.
